Lewis & Clark State Park
Onawa, IA |
||||||||||
| Lewis and Clark State Park lies on the shores of Blue Lake, an "oxbow" formed by the meanderings of the Missouri River many years ago. The park is named for Meriwether Lewis and Captain William Clark. On August 9 and 10, 1804, the expedition arrived at the site where the park now lies. They spent some time here exploring the region making observations on the geology, plants, and animals in the area.
You can view a full-sized reproduction of Lewis and Clark's keelboat, "Discovery," which was constructed by volunteers under the direction of Butch Bouvier. The prairie dog was painted to celebrate the bi-centennial. |
