Fort Bellfontaine Park

The Lewis and Clark Expedition spent its first night on the Missouri River camped 4.5 miles upstream on an island opposite the entrance of Cold Water Creek. the following year, Fort Bellefontaine was erected at this site. The returning expedition encamped at this garrison on September 22, 1806, the last night of their epic journey.
