Durant Wildcats
Durant, IA
Girls' Fast Pitch Softball
My brother-in-law is a teacher in the Durant School District in Iowa, so we went to see the girls' fast pitch softball team play in a district play-off game. This location does not count in our number of fields. The Durant Wildcats were playing the Beckham Blazers Class 2A girls' fast pitch softball Region 5 playoffs in Durant. The Durant field lines are RF & LF-200', CF-220'. They played with a Designated Hitter, but the pitcher can hit in this position, as did the Blazers pitcher. The game was tied 1 to 1 at the end of regulation seven innings. The starting pitchers continued into the 11th inning. At the bottom of the 11th, the Wildcats had the bases loaded as the Blazers pitcher seemed to tire. The Blazers achieved a double play when the Wildcats player on third led off too far. Bases were loaded again with a walk, when the Wildcats hitter hit a solid single to the right of 2nd base bringing home the winning run. Final score Blazers 1 and Wildcats 2. This was a pitcher's duel to the extreme. Not your usual professional baseball pitchers of 7 innings and time to turn it over to the bullpen. Durant lost their next game and were out of the play-offs.
