The Memphis Redbirds, a Triple A affiliate of St. Louis, play at AutoZone Park, which was built in 2000 and seats 14,200. This is another really nice ballpark with lots of amenities. The Club Level has an air conditioned interior concourse if you want to get out of the humidity. There are computers with high-speed internet access for anyone to use in this area. Down the 3rd baseline is the best children's area that we have seen. It has carnival type games as well as activities that the children can move around on or in. There are picnic areas in right field and at the end of the Club Level on the 3rd base end. You can walk around the outfield and peer into both bullpens. There are seats everywhere except in right field where there are unique bleacher type seating with individual backs and seats. The Redbirds were playing the Tacoma Rainiers, so we were rooting for the Mariners' affiliate. At the end of 9 innings the game was tied 4 to 4 after the Redbirds tied the game in the bottom of the 8th inning. The tie continued when in the middle of the 11th inning it started to pour. It rained for 40-45 minutes and then the grounds crew had to work for another hour to get the field ready to play again. At one time there was what appeared to be a heated discussion between the head umpire and Redbirds' management as to whether the game would be continued or called. Finally after a 1 hour and 48 minute rain delay the game began again. In the top of the 13th inning the Rainiers scored the winning run. The box score was Rainiers R-5, H-11, E-4 and Redbirds R-4, H-12, E-2. The field lines are RF-322', RC-373', CF-400', LC-360', LF-319'. Beyond the ballpark in right field are two apartment houses that people can watch the games from. After the rain delay Elpidio Guzman, Rainier player, did some work to help drain the area to the right side of the Rainer dugout. The dugout was a mess because water from the field was draining into it during the storm. Today was Little League Day and teams were announced and walked around the warning track. Rockey is the mascot. There is a red seat in right field. Albert Pujols hit a homer there to give the Redbirds their first Pacific Coast League Championship in 2000. The mural in the last row of pictures is inside the area where you go up to the Club Level and Suites. It shows what you would see looking out from the building to the main entrance. Also, in this area are pictures of famous people who played baseball, with their baseball statistics, who went on to another career.
