The Lake County Captains, a Single A affiliate of Cleveland, play at Eastlake Ball Park. This ball park, which opened this year, is dedicated to Mayor Dan Diliberto in appreciation of his insight, courage, and determination to construct this stadium for the enjoyment of the families and fans who will have many fond memories at this park. The facility was dedicated as "The House that Dan built." The stadium is typical of the newer single A ballparks with seating in front of the concession concourse with suites and broadcast areas above the concourse. There are picnic areas which can be used for private groups down each base line. The first base area has several levels making for great viewing. The team moved here after last season from Columbus, GA. The Captains were playing the Augusta Green Jackets and were successful, winning 6-2. The box score was Green Jackets R-2, H-4, E-0 and Captains R-6, H-13, E-2. The Captains starter pitched for 7 2/3 innings with 1 run and 2 hits. The reliever who pitched the remainder of the game was a newcomer. Two days ago he had been at Burlington, NC, rookie league, moved to Single A Mahoning Valley for one day before coming to Eastlake Thursday. The field lines are RF & LF-320' and CF-400'. Before the game there was a game of kickball played by many different mascots. Skipper, the Captains team mascot, pitched for one team and Slider from Cleveland pitched for the other team. When the race the mascot around the bases between inning activity was held Skipper was mugged at third base by Slider and the Colorado Rockies mascot. The Tip the Cow between inning activity had two people trying to find a person in a cow costume in centerfield by listening to a cowbell being rung by a staff person. Joining the Captains players on the field for the national anthem were members of the Firebirds team from the Mentor Little League. These 10 year olds are sponsored by the Blue Tip Grille. There is a very good children's area behind the left field bleachers. The attendance was 7,161. Buy your tickets early if there will be fireworks after the game. Moved to Mid-West League 2010. New Logo 2011. 2014 Classic Park seating 7,273. 2021--Affiliated with Cleveland. High A playing in the Central League, East Division.
